Certified Nurse Aide

This course is intended for adults who are interested in entering the healthcare field. The program prepares students for employment in both public and private agencies. Students will learn how to care for people who need help in caring for themselves. Classroom lecture and lab is combined with clinical training at a local skilled nursing facility. Upon completion of the course participants will be able to perform basic nursing skills and recognize areas of safety for both patient and self. This course prepares students for the State of Connecticut Competency Exam. Students will become eligible for the Connecticut State Nurse Aide Registry. Course topics include but are not limited to: Basic nursing and personal care to patients; helping patients maintain or regain everyday tasks including eating, bathing, dressing, and toileting; communicating with patients and providing physical (includes heavy lifting) and emotional support to them; making patient observations and reporting them; participating in care planning.
